About this course

Are you already studying your apprenticeship in engineering? Are you thinking of specialising in a certain area? There has never been a better time to upskill.
Specially designed to meet the needs of apprentices working as a tradesperson in metal, engineering, manufacturing industries, this specialist qualification will put you ahead of the game in your future workplace.
Taught over three years, this course could not be more flexible. You can study full-time or part-time, and it also combines on-campus and workplace training, so you put your new skills into action right away.

Our Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Apprenticeship) will see you combine on-the-job learning strategies with formal theory, while also learning about metal fabrication, forging, founding, erecting structural steel, metal spinning, metal polishing, electroplating, sheet metal work, welding and using specialised computers and equipment.
What’s even better, is if you have prior knowledge of fabrication, you may also achieve your Certificate III through a formal skills recognition assessment process – how good is that?!
Once you've completed the course, you’ll be able to gain real-world experience and earn a living as a boiler maker/Sheetmetal tradesperson, a certified welder or a welding supervisor and inspector, just to name a few!
You might also like to take your career further by studying a Certificate IV in Engineering to further your skills and increase your employment opportunities in the future. We’ll support you with everything you need to complete that course, if that’s the path you choose.
Again, you must be a in a registered apprenticeship to undertake this course.

Career Opportunities

The Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication specifies the competences required for employment as an engineering fabricator heavy stream (boilermaker).
