TAFE Gippsland today launched the Clean Economy Workforce Transition Framework for Gippsland project, which explores and outlines the key steps involved for workers working in traditional energy production into renewables.

The project was funded through the Victorian Government’s Clean Economy Workforce Capacity Building Fund and involved TAFE Gippsland working together with Star of the South, Federation University and Energy Australia Yallourn.

The project aim was to explore the opportunities and build training and transition pathways for industries and individuals who want to stay in the energy sector and transition into clean energy.

Quote attributable to TAFE Gippsland Chief Executive Officer, Laura Macpherson “With our partners, we have investigated clean energy opportunities and built education and training pathways that will ultimately keep our energy employees local and enable Gippsland to continue to prosper and provide energy for the rest of the state,” she said. “This will enable industries to consider if they are ready for the transition and if not, what they can do to ensure they are.”

Quote attributable to EnergyAustralia Yallourn Transition Leader, Lisa Gooding “The transition to cleaner energy is not just about switching energy technologies, it is about people – helping people realise new careers in the net zero economy. EnergyAustralia is committed to becoming net zero by 2050 by investing in clean and renewable technologies as well as creating transition pathways for our workforce to the jobs of the future.”

Quote attributable to Star of the South Chief Executive Officer, Charles Rattray "Local education and training is key to building a local offshore wind workforce, so we're proud to partner with TAFE Gippsland on the Workforce Transition project." “Creating local opportunities is a measure of success for Star of the South. Our team is focussed on contributing to greater investment and jobs in the region and supporting the local workforce transition to enable people to work and live in Gippsland.”

Quote attributable to Federation University Director Regional Strategy and Engagement, Eastern Region, Professor Andrew O’Loughlin “Providing the opportunity for thermal energy workers to transition across to the renewable energy sector is an important strategy for Gippsland as it moves away from fossil fuel generation. “Federation University is extremely proud to support this project by helping develop educational pathways that will help transition the region’s workforce to meet the emerging needs of our community.”
